I don't like change...at all...and E. Stone seems to have inherited my not-so-lovely trait. You see, we do just fine with changes that are external to us, but mess up our home surroundings and we'll fight you on it.
Remember this tunnel?
Well, this was the first one that we built and now it has to be built exactly the same EVERY time. Daddy doesn't understand...he built an awesome tunnel yesterday, even added on new parts, but it wasn't the same as the first tunnel, so it really didn't fly.
Recently we "returned" a borrowed crib to a friend. I thought we were switching them out a bit differently so I prepared E. Stone and myself for the light colored crib to be gone. Well that wasn't what happened. The dark crib was returned and E. Stone and I both had a hard time adjusting. It messed up my matching cribs in the boys rooms and E just couldn't understand why someone would take furniture from our house, but eventually we adjusted. Honestly, we didn't adjust, Nanny was kind enough to help our adjustment by bringing us another matching crib. I love that Nanny gets our craziness!
This fall will bring lots of changes for our family. E. Stone is starting Pre-K and will go five half-days beginning September 2. Daddy's work schedule is also changing - he won't be home at 4:30 anymore, but he will be at the house in the mornings until we head out to drop E at school. I'm hoping E. Stone and I will both process these as external changes, just to keep the peace around here.
We should be okay, just as long as all of E's new school friends learn to put their toys back where they belong. If not, we'll spend all afternoon putting them in the correct bins. What can I say? That's just who we are!
Who says nature overpowers nurture? I swear I passed my fear of change (and love of order) on to little E!

Oh, I so relate to this post! Tell E that there's someone else out there who understands! :-)
