We've gone and done it!

Alternate title, "Please don't feed our bears!"

We are now eating Gluten Free! And, it's making a difference!

I've read a ton about E. Stone's learning disabilities and all of the different things that people are doing to help remedy some of the bothersome quirks that come along. Everywhere I went, the GFCF diet kept creeping up as the ULTIMATE in helping kids with Autism and ADD. So, after some research, we've jumped in, and I'm so glad that we did!

My kids don't notice any of the changes, I just have to watch them when we're out and about. We've switched to soy milk with no complaints and I've found that with a great big box of Pamela's Baking Mix, I can replicate just about anything!

E. Stone's attention span is steadier and I've noticed fewer "blowout" episodes - I am hopeful that the removal of these two outside forces will bring us more words. Cash has also greatly benefited from the gluten removal, it seems a lot of his poopiness was a sensitivity to gluten. Great that I can get both fixed with the same thing!

I always carry snacks with us now and have learned what the kids can and can't have and where we can go to make it easy on us. We're still learning, but it hasn't been as overwhelming as I thought.

There are many stories I read along our journey to find what was best for E - many testimonial's that added to me wanting to jump on board the GFCF diet, but this one stood out and I wanted to share it with you:

From Mother Warriors:
..."So we did some shopping and got on board. After a couple of days I thought I started seeing something. It wasn't huge; it was just something. Ethan (the child) looked clearer and I was seeing a little more eye contact.

Then in two weeks he was literally doubling his language.... Every little thing Ethan did was an exciting accomplishment. Yet there were always constant reminders that even though he was making progress, we still had a long way to go. For example, we have a bird named Harry. Ethan would point to Harry and say "bird" and we'd be so excited!

Then our next-door neighbor Sophie, who was born at the same time as Ethan, came over and said, "Oh, look at Harry. I like his little yellow beak..."

---end quote

It's hard not (and heartbreaking to) compare. I've found myself, many times, angry at another parent for "bragging." I've come to realize they aren't, I'm just sensitive, but it's still hard.

So, here's where we stand, ready and willing to make a change and hopeful (extremely hopeful) that this will be part of our answer!
