Freebie Friday

This was a great week for coupons.  Between Kroger’s Mega Event and my drugstore run (Walgreens and CVS) our pantry and toiletry cabinets are stocked.  Here’s the rundown from this week:

Drugstore (Walgreens and CVS)

I actually MADE money this week on my drugstore runs.  If you are new to using coupons at drugstores, then read up on the ins-and-outs here and here.  Since I organize my coupons and lists at home each week, I spend about 15 minutes in each store,  not too shabby when you no longer purchase (pay for) drugstore items like shampoo, conditioner, shaving cream, razors, OTC medicines, face wash, soaps, etc.

This week, I bought:

Two Suave men’s body washes

Four jars Skippy peanut butter (three creamy, one crunchy)

Two jars Ragu tomato sauce (garden veggie)

One tube Colgate Fresh Effects toothpaste

I spent $1 after coupons and Extra Care Bucks (EBCs) at CVS for the above items and then headed to Walgreens where I bought:

One bottle of Blink eye drops (similar to Visine)

One tube of lip conditioner (like ChapStick, but I can’t remember the brand and already donated it)

At Walgreens, I received all of the above items for free after coupons and was able to get an overage of $1.50 in store credit to use on my next purchase.  All-in-all, I made $.50.  Pretty great, huh?

Later in the week, on an evening after the kids went to bed, I met up with a neighbor and headed to Kroger.  Kroger often runs Mega Events where you buy 10 participating items within a transaction and you get $5  off your purchase.  This can be done an unlimited number of times within one transaction, so in essence you are receiving $.50 off each participating item.

I did not take a photo of this week’s Kroger run, mostly because all of my purchases wouldn’t fit into a single photo!  Here’s what I got:

9 bags of Quaker Quakes Rice Snacks, I had five coupons, so I got five for FREE, then paid  $0.49 for each additional bag ($1.96)
4 boxes of Nabisco Snack Crackers, Triscuit and Ritz  ($2.80)

3 bags of Chex Mix , chocolate and ranch varieties ($1.47)
4 bags of Snyder’s of Hanover Pretzels ($.44)

4 boxes of Orville Redenbacher Popcorn, 6 count ($3.96)

2 bags Orville Redenbacher Poppycock Popcorn ($1.98)

4 bags Tostitos Tortilla Chips ($5.16)

4 cans Hormel Chili w/ Beans ($.96)

8 bags Kraft Naturals Shredded Cheese ($3.92)
2 boxes of Philadelphia Cream Cheese ($.98)

3 bags Tyson Any’tizers Frozen Chicken ($7.47)

3 boxes New York Texas Toast ($2.97)

1 Gatorade 8 pk. ($3.49)

6 packs of Ziploc Food Containers ($5.40)

3 bags Solo Plastic Cups 50 ct. (FREE)

So, my grand total for these 60 items was $42.96, regular price would have totaled $138.75, making my total savings right at 70 percent. Pretty good for a day’s work!

I pull my Kroger lists from here.  This is a newer site to me and I have noticed some variations in price (25 cents or so) between the list and my personal store, but it is a wonderful resource.
