Court News

I have to admit it feels surreal blogging again about court dates and updates, visits and the stress related to the foster-to-adopt process. I thought this stage of our life was behind us, but oh how God has plans!

Court today was pretty uneventful in the sense that we were concerned. All conditions were met, so we're moving forward with the home study - which will hopefully happen this week. We're hoping this part is pretty speedy, because if this baby is going to be here we want him here ASAP, so we can start bonding and getting schedules set before #3 gets here. Yes, I have done the math, for a very brief period I will have three little boys under the age of two. To make it sound even scarier, remember that E. Stone was already just shy of six months old when he came home, so we're really moving ourselves from a family of two to five in the span of 18 short months! Wow!

I will update as soon as I get more info on home study scheduling and moving forward with placement, but things look good. The baby had a follow-up physical yesterday and is 50% on weight and height and 75% on head measurements - sounds close to E. He is being fitted for a special helmet that will help reshape his head. I'm sure you guys have all seen these before - so it's not too out of the ordinary. He's also a bit younger than we thought prior - his birthday is February 17th, 2008.

This court is new, new judge, new case workers, new investigators - all of which is a good thing for us. The judge took time out to personally thank Heath and I for our efforts with E and our continued support of the foster-to-adopt system - it felt good to know that he believed in us and bolstered us a little.

We also got to see an amazing thing right before our court proceedings started. A couple who brought a baby home from Morocco when he was 11 days old had their adoption finalized in court. Heath and I have been on that side of the table and know what a relief it is to have those papers - we felt blessed to be able to witness such an amazing event as spectators. I'll admit to shedding a few tears. God bless that new family!
