Cooking with Kids

It might not be the most hygienic way to cook...

There just might be too many cooks in the kitchen...

There might be obscene amounts of taste testing...

But cooking with your kids is so worth the effort.  This batch of pancakes, full of sweet potatoes and flax, were gobbled immediately.  They probably would have been otherwise, but since the kids had a hand in making this yummy breakfast it was almost guaranteed.

Way beyond the healthy eating benefits of cooking with your kids, the life skills and math skills learned are amazing.  My kids understood the concept of fractions and knew how to properly crack and dispose of eggs at the age of two.  It's not something they're going to forget.

If you didn't grow up cooking and need a place to start, I don't suggest kids' cook books.  I know that sounds weird, but the recipes are usually more for snacks than anything else.  You can find our recipes here, or you can check out some of our favorite cook books:
- Double Delicious
- Artisanal Gluten Free Cooking
- Make it Fast, Cook it Slow
- Williams Sonoma Bride and Groom Cookbook

Get you kids in the kitchen and see what happens, I bet you'll be surprised!  And if you really want them to start eating their fruits and veggies, plant a garden.  It's amazing what kids will eat if they get to watch it grow!
